UW-Madison College of Engineering Faculty and OCR Visit MATC

On November 26th, Mike Zinn and Peter Adamczyk from Mechanical Engineering accompanied Russ Johnson from the Office of Corporate Relations on a visit to Madison Area Technical College’s (MATC) School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).  The UW-Madison team met with Peter Dettmer, Department Chair – Industrial Technology; Kevin Mirus, Dean STEM; and Randy Way, Associate Dean STEM.  The group toured MATC’s facilities supporting robotics, automation, and other electro-mechanical technologies and explored opportunities to collaborate on experiential learning.

In 2022, MATC received a $7.5M grant from NSF to form the CREATE Energy Advance Technology Education Center. The mission of this center is to produce a skilled technical workforce that will support the clean energy transition. The grant funding along with donations from industry partners has enabled MATC to amass an impressive group of classroom/labs that are equipped with technology to support experiential learning related to robotics, automation, metrology, and fluid power, among others.

We are excited to start building a stronger partnership with MATC that will be mutually beneficial to students from both institutions.  Please let us know if you are interested in finding out more.
